Does Jamestown College need an on-campus nurse?

Yes. It would be nice to have someone close by to go to.

Collegian Top Freakin' 10 Greatest Books

#10—“Jurassic Park” by Michael Crichton: I’ll warn you ahead of time. This list is going to be more diverse than your standard top 10 “literary greats.” There’s more to “Jurassic Park” than meets the eye. In many ways, it is the “Frankenstein” of our generation. It’s about what happens when man messes with something he doesn’t understand. It’s about humankind deciding to leap before it looks. Also, it has some of the most pulse-pounding suspense sequences ever written.

Bioshock 2 Review

Back in 2007, 2K Games released Bioshock for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Bioshock was the “spiritual” sequel to the PC series System Shock, a blend of RPG and FPS elements set in derelict space station with an insane artificial intelligence shadowing your every step. Bioshock shared the FPS elements and creepy atmosphere from the System Shock games, but not much else.

La Carreta: Mexicano Cuisine in North Dakota

If you are looking for somewhere new to eat, I would highly suggest La Carreta. Located in the strip mall near Wal-Mart and Applebee’s, it is Jamestown’s newest Mexican restaurant.

When customers enter the door a host will greet them with a smile and a “Hola.” The main dining area is a large room with booths around the sides and other tables in the center. The room has a spacious, uncluttered, comfortable feeling, and the decorations compliment the room very well.

Nursing college may not need an on-campus nurse

It may be strange to some for a campus with so many nursing students and instructors to have no nurse or health care center available for students or faculty, but Jamestown College will probably remain that way. Dean of Students Gary Van Zinderen said that the need for an on-campus nurse is not as great as it may seem.

Jamestown's tri-racial family

Don’t be alarmed that you’ve gone to the wrong home if a Taiwanese or Ethiopian child answers Professor Brian Lang’s door. He and his wife, Lisa, say God has called them to adopt two orphans of each race during the last five years.

“I think it’s a direct correlation to listening to God,” Lisa said. “We clearly know it’s from him so far as that he says in scripture to look after orphans and widows.”

Although they had God on their side, Brian said it was not an easy decision.

Campus spring break traveling plans

Classes are into the thick of things. Tests are raining down upon students. The end seems so far away, but do not lose hope yet. Spring break is right around the corner, where thankfully everyone will get a chance to take a breather. Here is the million dollar question. What are your plans for spring break? What are you going to do with that blissful week of no classes or deadlines?

China Garden

Upon first entering The China Garden located in County Market’s parking lot, one could become somewhat skeptical as to the quality of dinner she was about to partake in. Thoughts similar to these were running through my head as my friends and I pulled up to the entirely empty restaurant. Fortunately, as the evening progressed we became pleasantly surprised.

Super Bowl commercials average this year

Like many Americans, you may watch the Super Bowl at least partially for the commercials. This is not too surprising, considering approximately $206 million was spent on commercials this year. There were cute, funny, and controversial commercials on Super Bowl Sunday. Topics ranged from anti-abortion to how Snickers can make Betty White into a good football player.

International Week

Last week the International Student Organization had its 25th International Week at Jamestown College. ISO president Audrey Desmarteaux-Houle said International Week promotes culture and diversity to the students and faculty of Jamestown College. In addition to ISO, the Look Beyond committee helps organize and run the week. The cafeteria also joined in by having entrees from many different countries, including Jamaica and Mexico.

V is for Vita

It’s that time of year again when most people actually wish they didn’t make that much money. You guessed it; the dreaded tax season. However, thanks to the volunteers from the Jamestown College Volunteer Income Tax Association program, the process for filing income tax returns is made easy.

Help for Haiti

If you lost everything – all your possessions, even the basic necessities to live – what would you need the most? The president of the Jamestown Rotary club, Tom Boerger, posed this question to a handful of listeners at the campus-wide meeting held last Wednesday. The meeting was put together in an attempt to get organizations on campus and throughout the community on the same page regarding the situation in Haiti.

Handicap Accessibility on Campus

People in wheelchairs face many difficulties when it comes to transportation. Luckily, section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 makes obtaining an education possible for people in wheelchairs.

Who needs Greek?

Jamestown College has a lot to offer its students. The campus, while small, has six resident halls in addition to campus apartments. The one living option not offered to students that most colleges have is fraternities and sororities.

Greek life seems appealing to many, but there are many stereotypes associated with it. Toga parties, fundraisers and hazing new members are all thought of in the same context as Greek life. Many people think sororities and fraternities are just a place to party and drink and haze and torture new members.
