For this week’s column I thought I would list some of the current events going on in America and around the world. I know it is hard to stay connected to the news when we are in college, but it is important to know what is going around us.
The Yankees take home the World Series title.
Three softball players from Dickinson State were found dead in a
shallows lake last week.
In Cleveland, Ohio police have found 11 bodies in the house of Anthony Sowell, a convicted serial rapist.
At Fort Hood, 12 military soldiers and one civilian were shot and killed while 30 more were wounded. The gunman is Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a psychiatrist who worked on the base.
A gunman shot and killed one and injured five employees at an Orlando office building. The suspect is Jason Rodriguez, a former employee at the engineering firm inside the building.
Obesity is responsible for 100,000 cancer cases annually.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said British forces in Afghanistan will not give up to task in Afghanistan, but there needs to be reform in Afghanistan, and British troops will stay and help the cause.
President Obama’s health care plan passed the House last weekend and is now up for debate in the Senate.
There you go - not much, but big events that would take more investigating if you are interested.
