Matrix
The Matrix came out at a time when the majority of movies from the realm of science fiction involved humans fighting against evil robots or evil aliens. It completely broke the mold when it introduced a story that compelled viewers question the reality of their own existence, while also completely enthralling them with its Hong Kong action and excellent special effects.
Star Wars
The original Star Wars was the movie that made us believe that there could actually be a grand-scale conflict in a galaxy far, far away. It may not be the first sci-fi movie ever, but it could definitely be regarded as the godfather of science fiction because of its groundbreaking special effects and its huge role in the introduction of the sci-fi genre into the mainstream.
Terminator 2
The story of a mechanical soldier sent back in time to protect the non-Christian savior of the human race is told to perfection by master director James Cameron. The action blends perfectly with the story and has a purposeful part in the plot. It proved that CGI was the new pavement for the road of special effects, and most, if not all, of the effects in this movie still compare well to recent movies.
WALL-E
The first sci-fi movie by Pixar is a beautiful depiction of the love between two robots. It is, in my opinion, one of the best love stories ever told. Also featuring an eco-friendly message, Pixar scores again.
District 9:
It was a real tough decision finding the top Sci-Fi film of all time, but after several debates of dodging bullets and traveling in outer space, we find ourselves looking at a new director to give us a hit. At number 1, we find District 9, a movie about what would happen if aliens found their way to earth. What we get is a brilliant film depicting the discrepancies and downfalls of humankind. We get an ordinary man who is suddenly thrust among the alien culture and we get to view the horrid practices that the aliens go through. This film definitely set itself apart from the other sci-fi films to take the number 1 spot.
Avatar:
James Cameron proved to us to be a sci-fi wizard when we received Alien and then Terminator. Once again, James Cameron delivers. With a whole new unexplored world and story, we fell in love with this movie right away. The special effects, along with acting, make this movie our number four sci-fi film of all time.
Transformers:
Starting off our top 10 Sci-Fi films of all time, we find ourselves looking at a couple of robots for help. Transformers left us in awe with the amazing visuals and of course, the explosions. What made this movie great was the terrific voice acting effects. It was a nice change from the “Aliens” and “Giant Bugs”. We get to see some huge robots kicking some aluminum cans! Anyway, this movie was great, not the best, but it has just enough to kick off the top 10 sci-fi films of all time.
