Raugust library receives grant

Raugust Library has received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant came in the form of $800 worth of materials related to the preservation of archival material. The library has been collecting items for over ten years and the task of organizing the collection has been undertaken by volunteer Bob Salting.


Jimmies start Conference Season off right

Dominate, that is what the Jamestown College volleyball team did this past weekend against Mayville State and Dakota State. The Jimmies only needed 3 games in each match to get the victories. It was a huge weekend for the Jimmies as they are now starting 2-0 in the DAC play.

“Both games we played this weekend were a total team effort, we came out strong and didn’t let up,” said sophomore Samantha Revering.


JC staff member on national advisory board of software company

Jamestown College chief technology officer Tim Kachel has been elected to the advisory board of the National Association of Jenzabar EX Users.

Jenzabar EX is a provider of software applications for higher education management.

There were 25 candidates nationwide for just four open positions on the board. Kachel was a charter member of the advisory board in the early 1990s.

Board members provide input on product direction, interact with product managers and developers, and gain product insights. They meet monthly via phone conference and twice yearly.

Jamestown knocks off UND

The Hanson Center was the place to be as history was in the making, the Jimmies defeated the undefeated University of North Dakota 3-2 for the first time in school history .

The stands were packed full of crazy JC students from the get go and they were not disappointed.

“In my 12 years at Jamestown College I have never seen a home crowd like that night. I can’t thank the incredible number of students and fans enough for their energy and support throughout the match. There is no question that the support we felt played a factor in the match.” Coach Mahoney said.


Jamestown College to name Dahl, Erickson to Alumni Hall of Fame

Jamestown College will recognize four alumni at the Opening Convocation at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 in the Reiland Fine Arts Center. The public is invited to attend.

The Rev. Leonard Dahl and the Honorable Ralph Erickson will be inducted into the Jamestown College Alumni Hall of Fame.

Dr. Ida Allen Bergman and Jeremy Wells will receive the Young Alumni Medallion.


JC announces fall 2008 enrollment

Jamestown College reports an enrollment of 1,020 students at the beginning of the 2008-09 academic year. This number represents an increase in freshmen and transfer students.

“We are impressed by both the number and quality of enrolling freshmen,” says Tena Lawrence, dean of enrollment management. “They are bright, well prepared, enthusiastic students anxious to begin their college journey.”


Football falls short on the road

The Jamestown College football team fell behind 24-0 at halftime and fought back to make it 27-13 late in third quarter but it was the University of Wisconsin-Stout who came away with a 37-13 victory.

It was Stout who controlled field position the entire first half which kept the Jimmies on their heels. It wasn’t until senior quarterback Josh Kittell hooked up with redshirt freshman receiver Josh Ewalt on a 20-yard touchdown strike that broke up the shutout early in the second half.


Volleyball leaves Lamoni, Iowa with 1-3 showing

The Jamestown College volleyball girls were back on the road this past weekend in Lamoni, IA at the Graceland Invitational. The Jimmies played a total of four games and went 1-3 on the weekend.

In the first game the Jimmies took on the host, Graceland. The Jimmies lost the first game, but then rebounded and won the next three to get the win. The Jimmies were led in kills by Darci Purath, Shannon Fee, and Samantha Revering, each with 9. On the defensive side the Jimmies were led by Chandra Groves with 14 digs and Tara Peet with 6 blocks. Kayla Fee also dished out 35 assists.


Jamestown College hosting job fair

Jamestown College Career Services and KISS 93.3/KSJB Radio are sponsoring the fourth annual Community Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16 in the Nafus Student Center on the campus of Jamestown College. The job fair is open to the public.

Candidates seeking part time, full time and temporary jobs as well as internship opportunities are encouraged to attend.


Men's soccer ties BC, loses to Morningside

With a record of 1 win and 3 losses, the mens soccer team traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to play two games this weekend.

On Saturday they went up against Briar Cliff University. After two halves and two periods of overtime, the game was tied at 0-0.

The following day they played Morningside College of Iowa. The game ended 2-5 with sophomore Bradley Wolbert scoring both goals for the Jimmies.

"Our defense played a little sloppy, but it's nothing we can't fix," sophomore Jordan Gengler said. "We'll make some adjustments and hopefully play better this week."
