Winter is almost here, and so are icy roads

If you have ever driven in North Dakota in the winter, you know it’s a bit different than winter driving in many other places. In fact, Watch Dog Driving School said the No. 1 cause of death for people ages 15 to 20 is car collisions, so it’s important to be extra careful in the winter when it can be easier to wreck.

Logan Caldwell, Emergency Medical Technician

Adrenaline rushes. Late night dashes to the hospital in an ambulance traveling at 90 mph and never knowing what is going to happen next.

It doesn’t sound like the average college student’s lifestyle, but this is just another day in the life of Logan Caldwell, a freshman at JC who also happens to be the youngest EMT in the state of North Dakota.

Kroeze Haunted House: A Spooktacular Beginning

Nothing says Halloween like trick-or-treat, dressing like ghosts and witches and, of course, haunted houses. Luckily, Jamestown College has its own scary lair. Every year the halls of Kroeze compete against each other to make the scariest and most creative setting to spook visitors if they dare come. The idea for the Kroeze Haunted House started 10 years ago by a student.

“I was a junior at JC,” Gail Renwich said. “I was the assistant resident director, and I was in charge of programming. It was just one of the ideas that I had in my head.”

Jamestown College's haunted hallways

With Halloween around the corner, it is no coincidence that stories of the legendary ghosts of Jamestown College are buzzing around campus. We have all heard rumors of the ghosts in Watson, Kroeze and Sorkness hall. Some students are skeptics, but others are believers. With the following information, you can decide for yourself.

Cathy Lutz, the Watson Hall Resident Director for 14 years, has experienced her fair share of “ghostly encounters.” She has never personally seen a ghost but has definitely felt a presence.

Cool jobs off-campus

Almost two months of the school year are gone. At this stage, some college students may be experiencing a shortage of cash. Some students don’t get enough money from work-study or the hours don’t fit in with their schedule. Some are just bored from playing Nazi Zombies and Rock Band. If this is the case, there are plenty of jobs off campus that will fit any college student’s needs.

Lions, tigers, and BEARS, oh my!

Located just a walk away from campus is a little place that many college students have driven, run or walked past at various times during their stay in Jamestown. The question is, when are you going to stop and check it out?

The Polar King, found on 13 St. N.E., is a fast food joint where you can expect to find a menu full of variety. Choices range from their famous hoagie burgers to a delicious array of ice cream treats, like the dusty road sundae just waiting to be eaten.
