Jimmie women's basketball wins first-ever conference championship
Posted March 4th, 2010 by Richard SchmitJamestown College won its first-ever women’s Dakota Athletic Conference tournament championship Tuesday in Black Hills.
“You always hope to win and experience it in front of your home crowd,” head coach Mark Wiest said. “But for us to beat them on their home court for a championship was the ultimate high.”
Intramural Basketball story
Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jarann Johnson-Matt Nies
Intramural sports are a great way to get exercise and have fun with your friends. They provide an opportunity for people to play in a competitive, organized and enjoyable environment. Perhaps the most competitive of all the intramural sports is basketball.
Every January students either compile or join an intramural basketball team with the hope of winning a championship T-shirt. This year intramural basketball should be particularly competitive because of the amount of teams participating.
1998 dream VS. @2010 Reality
Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jarann Johnson-Jarann Johnson
This Sunday the Vikings will have their first chance at going to the Super Bowl since the 38- yard field goal attempt that has haunted a generation of Vikings fans. The funny thing about the ‘09 team and that ’98 team is that they share lots of similarities.
Let’s first talk about the roster comparisons. We all remember that explosive rookie wide receiver that teams had to readjust their game plan for, right? Yes, the great Randy Moss. He was considered a freak because of how fast he was and his exceptional jumping ability.
How good is the US Hockey team

Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jarann Johnson-Jarann Johnson
It was recently reported to the associated press that Tim Tebow and his mother will be in a Super Bowl ad sponsored by Focus on the family. Focus on the family is a conservative Christian group so people are associating the commercial with the view that conservatives are homophobic and anti-abortion.
To tell the truth all the pre-commercial hype and tension is worthless. No one has seen the commercial and focus on the family has been quoted as saying the commercial is just there to make people aware of their options.
Super Bowl Sunday
Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jarann Johnson-Jarann Johnson
This Sunday the Super Bowl will be played in Miami Florida. Since the economy is down I don’t think many of us can afford to watch the game live from the second row with the perfect view. Most of us will probably sit somewhere in the greater rural area of Jamestown and watch the game.
10 days as a wrestler
Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jarann Johnson-Alyssa Record.
Jamestown College started a women’s wrestling program last year, becoming one of 13 schools in the United States to possess the sport. Before I came to JC in the fall I had minimal knowledge of wrestling. Wrestling is an athletic concept that has always been foreign to me. I had only seen glances of television of matches.

2010 Pro Bowl
Posted February 22nd, 2010 by Jarann Johnson-Jarann Johnson.
Tradition doesn’t mean anything anymore. On Sunday the Pro Bow was played in Florida and also a week before the super bowl instead of a week after.
How messed up is it that the best players weren’t able to play in the Pro Bowl. I don’t know how you can call a game an “all-star game” when the two best QB’s in the league are missing.
No Manning and no Brees? It still astonishes me. But if you look at the way money is being poured into sports it makes since. Just look at football a step down from the pros.
Olympics

The Winter Olympics are in Vancouver, Canada this year. I’m from a suburb 30 minutes away from the city and see the effects it is having on the locals. A lot of these problems won’t be covered by the press.
For instance, Vancouver is currently experiencing record warm temperatures and heavy rain falls that are causing a serious lack of snow on the mountains. This is causing Olympic organizers to work constantly to maintain Cypress Mountain, the location for freestyle ski and snowboard games.

Kobe Vs. Kanye
Posted October 30th, 2009 by Jarann JohnsonWith the first October chills starting to blow and sweatpants becoming a favorable clothing option many are asking when will the NBA season come alive.
The preseason started in early October and the regular season elbow swinging, trash-talking, and ankle breaking starts during Halloween weekend. Hint hint someone should be Chris Anderson AKA the BIRDMAN for Halloween.

NHL Excitement
Posted October 30th, 2009 by Jarann JohnsonAlyssa Record-NHL Hockey has been wildly entertaining and the pace of play has been phenomenal early in the 2009-2010 season. On an incidental note, Anaheim Forward Evgeny Artyuhkin has been suspended for three games without pay as a result of a slew-footing call against Dallas star’s defensemen Matt Niskanen. The Dallas Stars won the game 4-2 and Artyuhkin will be allowed to play on October 31st at Phoenix. The exciement runs high as does the injured lists, as key NHL players increasingly become hurt.
